Adult Obesity: It Starts With Childhood Obesity
-
11May2012
A new study projects that 42 percent of Americans will be obese by 2030. That’s an additional 32 million Americans beyond the current 78 million! How do we reverse this trend before it’s too late?
Most obese adults start out as overweight children. In fact, most of the eating habits we have as adults are established during childhood. This means that to reverse the adult obesity trend, we need to start with the current childhood obesity trend. Many of the people who will be adults in 2030 (18 years from now) are children today.
There is a persistent belief that… Read the rest

Never heard of “diabesity?” It’s a term that used to describe Type 2 diabetes brought on by obesity. And the trends are not good, especially in teens.
A new study that was released on Sunday found that, once diagnosed with diabesity, nearly half of teens failed to control their condition, and 1 in 5 suffered serious complications. This new study supports our position that childhood obesity is more than a problem – it’s an epidemic. The sad part is that this problem is almost entirely preventable.

In a previous post, we talked about a wellness expert in Australia that was proposing a tax on high-fat foods to help combat the obesity trend in that country. Now, it seems that, in California at least, voters are willing to back similar proposals.
Childhood obesity is a significant and growing problem in this country, as well as other developed nations. We believe that it is… Read the rest

One More Reason to Eat Healthy – Reduced Pain!
-
04Apr2012
There seems to be a pretty clear link between obesity and pain, with the heaviest people suffering the greatest. This shouldn’t really come as a complete surprise. If you are overweight, then your skeleton and muscles have to support all that extra weight. This added stress causes pain over time.
Now researchers have confirmed it. They recently examined data from more than 1 million people (wow, that’s a pretty big study!), and found that those people who were overweight reported suffering from more pain than those who’s weight was within the normal range.
They also found that, as people age,… Read the rest

Childhood Obesity: The “Low Fat” Scam
-
28Mar2012
So much has been written in recent years about the “evils” of fat and the importance of maintaining a low fat diet. This has come to the forefront in the battle to overcome childhood obesity. Food manufacturers push their “low fat” versions of popular products as a “healthy alternative.” But, will eating foods marked “low fat” really help kids avoid obesity?
The short answer is “no.” Now, reducing fat in your child’s diet is a good thing in most cases. Some fat is part of a healthy diet, but American’s consume far too much of it. Most experts recommend a… Read the rest
