May is national salad month, so it’s a good time to think about just what could go into a healthy salad. First, decide on the base of your salad. Iceberg lettuce may be the most popular variety in the U.S., but we recommend that you choose another variety instead. In terms of taste and nutritional value, iceberg lettuce is at the bottom of the ladder, and… Read the rest

18Apr2012
A couple of years ago, when my grandparents passed away, I was lucky enough to get the large dining table from their estate. It now has a prominent place in our own dining room, and I just love it!
There are so many great memories of our family sitting around that table – grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, anyone and everyone. It didn’t matter that we sat on a mismatch of chairs, stools and benches. It didn’t even really matter what we ate, either.
And that’s the important point – family meals are about more than the food. It’s funny, but… Read the rest
Too many parents use dessert as a reward for eating what’s really healthy at mealtime. But, what message does that send to your children?
I know, it’s easy to fall into this “trap.” The kids won’t eat their vegetables, and no matter what you say, you can’t make them either.
