Picky Eaters: What We Can Learn From the French
-
26Mar2012
Would you love to turn your picky eater into a real foodie? It turns out there is a lot we in America can learn from the French!
I recently came across a great book, French Kids Eat Everything, by Karen Le Billon. Her kids were picky eaters too, but when her family moved to a small village in France for 1 year, she found that French children eat almost anything they are served. She set off to find out how French parents got their kids to eat so well, and what she discovered is the basis for her… Read the rest

Picky Eaters: Making Meals Fun Can Help
-
12Mar2012
A new study conducted by Cornell University found that most children respond to color and variety in food presentation. Even more interesting, the study found that what kids find visually appealing can be very different from what their parent like.
Children also respond very positively to food presented in the shape of a design. Most kids find foods like Mickey Mouse-shaped pancakes, cereal with a “face” made from a banana and strawberries, or peas arranged in the shape of a heart, as “fun.” This study found that you can get picky eaters to eat almost anything if it is made… Read the rest

Sure, an occasional doughnut, or a family breakfast with pancakes is ok, but these should be “treats” and not the norm.
This is especially true when it comes to breakfast cereals. The most popular brands are loaded with sugar. How much, you ask? According to a recent study, at least 47 popular children’s cereals pack more sugar in a cup than 1-1/2… Read the rest

Do you have a picky eater in your home? Today, picky eating as a child is almost considered “normal.” But, most people outgrow their picky habits as they mature, and picky eating usually peaks in the toddler and preschool years.
Many parents worry that their picky eater is not getting enough nutrients to grow normally. This is rarely the case, however. Of course, if you suspect that your child’s growth pattern is not normal, you should consult your child’s health care provider. But, in most the vast majority of cases, some dislike of certain foods during childhood is not an… Read the rest

Picky Eaters: What You May Not Know
-
11Jan2012
Is mealtime a struggle in your home?
Do you spend more time begging your child to eat than enjoying the meal yourself?
Sadly, you are not alone. Studies show that 1 in 5 preschool aged children is a picky eater. Most children outgrow picky eating by age 4 or 5, and some never outgrow it.
Some kids may actually have a phobia about certain foods that requires a doctor’s care. But for the vast majority of picky eaters it’s just a habit, and habits can be changed. That’s good news for parents, because research shows that eating habits… Read the rest
