I’ve seen several articles recently complaining about the inaccuracies of body mass index (BMI) calculations, so I thought it might be time to address this issue. BMI is a formula that uses height and weight to approximate a person’s amount of body fat. It then classifies each person into one of 4 weight ranges – underweight, normal, overweight and obese.

I have to give it to Dr. Oz. On his show Monday; he featured someone who fundamentally disagreed with almost everything he believes about fitness, obesity and weight loss. I don’t know of too many TV personalities who would welcome someone to their show who didn’t share their opinions!

Does your family’s health, at least in part, depend on where you live? A long-term study by the University of Chicago finds that it does. The study followed 4,500 women with children who lived in public housing in Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, LA and New York City.

It turns out that people in poorer neighborhoods are at a higher risk of becoming too heavy.
